Nebraska Crime Stoppers began operations on January 2, 1989 with a statewide, toll-free telephone number that persons can call to provide crimesolving tips to law enforcement.
Staff members will answer the calls and forward the information - first by telephone, then by letter, to the appropriate law enforcement agency that has jurisdiction in the area where the crime was committed. The staff members will not ask for the caller's name. Instead they will assign a Nebraska Crime Stoppers identification code number to the person, and obtain the information. The caller will be instructed to call Nebraska Crime Stoppers back on a date after the next Nebraska Crime Stoppers monthly board meeting. If the information provided by a caller leads to the arrest of an individual that is responsible for committing the crime, Nebraska Crime Stoppers will determine the dollar amount to be paid to the caller for the information provided. When the caller calls back, the staff will make arrangements with the caller as to a location where the caller wants to pickup their reward.
